1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later visits. Related technologies — local storage in particular — do a similar job without being sent to the server at all. This page covers both.
We keep the list deliberately short. There is no consent banner on this site because we set no non-essential cookies of our own.
2. Essential cookies
These are required for the site to work. Without them you could not stay signed in, and the admin console could not be secured.
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
dd_session | Keeps you signed in to your Discipline 24 account. Marked httpOnly, Secure and SameSite=Lax, so browser scripts cannot read it. | 30 days |
dd_admin | Authenticates a site administrator in the content console. Set only for staff accounts. | 12 hours |
3. Local storage
Local storage stays in your browser and is never transmitted to us. We use exactly one key:
| Key | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
dd-theme | Remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme. Absent unless you pick one explicitly — the default follows your operating system. | Until you clear site data |
4. Analytics
Where Google Analytics is enabled, it sets its own cookies to measure aggregate traffic — which pages are read, roughly where visitors come from, whether a page performs. IP addresses are anonymised. We use this to decide what to write next, not to identify you.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, or you use a content blocker, these scripts simply do not load and the site works exactly the same.
5. Advertising
Parts of this site may carry Google AdSense units. Google and its partners may set cookies to serve and measure advertising, including personalised advertising based on your prior visits to this and other sites.
You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google My Ad Center, and review the wider options at aboutads.info. Advertising cookies are never used to read the contents of your account — your disciplines and completion history are not shared with advertisers.
6. How to control cookies
- Your browser. Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies for a specific site, usually under Privacy or Site settings. Blocking
dd_sessionwill sign you out and prevent you signing back in. - Content blockers. Analytics and advertising scripts are loaded from third-party domains and are blocked cleanly by any standard blocker.
- Signing out. Use the account menu — it clears the session cookie immediately rather than waiting for it to expire.
